My husband challenged me to make palkova/theratipal (kova) for his birthday, assuming that I’ll need to stand in front of stove stirring milk for around 2 to 3 hours. Coincidently that day had been the most busy day for me. Pressed for time, I decided to make the shortcut microwave method (I didn’t take step by step picture while making palkova as I was not intending to post it, I’ll update this post with step by step pictures the next time I make it). The result was hassle free yet very tasty, made in just under 30 minutes with minimal supervision. I had some leftover palkova and wanted to experiment with it in baking.



After all, my sister was here and how can I not use the opportunity of using her as a guinea pig. So I made some pastry cups, filled them with the palkova and baked them. She wanted to see the work involved in making, clicking, and writing a post for my blog, so why not make her try them as well. The cups were not only attractive but also very tasty. The palkova remained in the cups while baking without oozing out, and was little chewy in the inside with crispy, flaky pastry outside. Yum!!! we both settled down with a cup in each of our hands devouring them with some sister bonding on the side.



Frozen Pastry Dough — 1 Sheet (You can also used pie crust dough and the recipe to make fresh ones is given here)

Sweetened Condensed Milk — 1 can (14 oz)

Thick Yogurt — 3 Tbsp

Ghee(Clarified Butter) — 9 tsp


1. To make the palkova/theratipal— In a large glass bowl, mix sweetened condensed milk, yogurt, and 3 tsp of ghee. Heat on microwave on high for 4 minutes. Make sure you let it stand for about a minute before mixing to avoid splashing of ingredients on your face.

2. Add 2 tsp of ghee now and return it back to the microwave and heat for 2 minutes. Repeat this step with every 2 minutes increment and addition of 2 tsp of ghee for another 2 times until the condensed milk mixture turns in to a dark brown solid. Keep aside and let it cool on a plate to be used in the pastry cups.

3. Thaw the frozen pastry dough and cut in to small rectangles. Arrange it inside muffin moulds forming a shape of a cup. Preheat oven to 400F. Add a tablespoon of palkova/theratipal on to the cups and bake till the crust is slightly golden brown (about 10-15 minutes). Remove from oven, let it cool completely and serve. Enjoy!!!
